The best way to describe Shelly is that they are an extraterrestrial being with the appearance of a snail.

They came from the closest neighbor stars to the solar system, Alpha Centauri, initially on an expedition to find life from their nearest neighbours, our own solar system.
They had arrived just days after The Great Wipe, and soon became wrapped up in the efforts to rescue humanity from extinction.

They helped assist Unicorn in retrieving Salin's body from the abandoned warehouse some years later, and gaved them neccessary repairs (with their own flair to it) along with a fresh OS install.
They act as Salin's guide through the Dataverse, helping them out in any manner whatsoever to safely navigate the space now taken over by Squid.
